Hood Girls is Good Girls

GRITS (Girls Raised In the South) are good girls.

Girls with their hand on they hip to make their backbone slip are good girls.

Girls twerking in the street and the playground is good girls.

Girls poppin’ on the corner is good girls.

Girls slangin’ hot grease words out the frying pan that you

Have to be cool, ice cool enought to catch it,

Is good girls.

If it scald ya, it wasn't mean you in the first place.

Girls spittin’ sweet Southern vernacular

Dat 7th ward sastay with a taste of gumbo

Deep roux tones with succulent seafood

that chick in the 9th ward take that heavy

roux with fresh meats chopped into the pot

My sisters next door speak the sweet

Mississippi red clay whole hog barbecue

they words reach deep in the Earth

and come out sweet, fat and thick

as Southern thighs

My Sisters a couple rooms away

got that Bama barbecue bounce in their tongue

And roll in their words

Words fall out of mouth like short rib come off the bone

sweet and just juicy enough that you want more.

These are all good girls.

Bebe, our words roll from wide open lips

Speaking cuz God gifted us these tongues

And tones and the vernacular to back ‘em up.

We’s all good girls.
